Just about 6 miles south of Big Pine Key lies Looe Key Reef, which is considered to be one of the world's best coral reefs. Dolphins, rays, sea turtles, parrot fish, barracudas, yellow tail snapper, and even the enormous Goliath grouper can all be found here, among beautiful and vibrant plant life.
The boat ride to the reef takes about 45 minutes, it is not unusual for dolphins or turtles to be spotted along the way. In addition to the Looe Key reef, this area is home to other large brain coral formations- if time allows the Captain may stop at some of these spots as well.
All the snorkeling equipment is provided by the charter; no need to bring masks or fins, but you are welcome to if you prefer to use your own. Water depths on the ocean side range from 7 to 30 ft and, there is nowhere to sit or stand which is why strong swimming skills are required to participate in snorkeling. For guests who do not feel completely comfortable in deep water, we offer our 10'x12' inflatable dock which allows guests to lay out on a flat platform and stick their masks into the water to view the beauty below.
For guests who easily experience seasickness, we highly recommend taking Dramamine prior to the charter.
As always dogs are welcome but, from our personal experience, many dogs do not feel comfortable while their humans are in the water without them.
